Narayanganj schoolteacher Shyamal Kanti Bhakta, before turning himself in on Wednesday, said police implicated him in ‘false’ bribery charges ‘to appease an influential person’.
Bhakta, headmaster of Piyar Sattar Latif High School, made headlines after he was publicly humiliated by local MP Salim Osman for alleged blasphemy on May 13 last year.
Morsheda Begum, who teaches English in the school, started a case against Bhakta two months later.
She alleged that the headmaster took Tk 135,000 from her in 2014 promising her to bring her job under the government’s monthly payment order (MPO) programme, but did not deliver on the pledge.
Police submitted the charges in the case in April naming Bhakta. A Narayanganj court on Wednesday issued an arrest order for the headmaster after taking the charges into cognisance.
