State Minister for Local Government and Rural Development (LGRD) and Cooperatives Mashiur Rahman Ranga on Sunday said Bangladesh Rural Development Board (BRDB) would be turned into a department soon.
He made this announcement speaking as chief guest at the inaugural ceremony of two-day conference of BRDB field-level deputy directors at Kawran Bazar Palli Bhaban in the city. Presided over by BRDB Director General Abdul Jalil Mian, the function was also addressed by Rural Development and Cooperatives Secretary MA Quader Sarkar and field-level representative Abdus Sattar Mondal.
The state minister said Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman had formed the BRDB for poverty alleviation.
“Now, we are enjoying benefits of this. The rate of poverty is declining. Food production has increased,” he added. He said all would have to work for the development of rural areas.
The rural development and cooperatives secretary said the poverty rate has come down to 26 percent from 30 because of the efforts of BRDB officials.
He urged the officials to be more active.
More than 100 field-level representatives are taking part in the conference.
