Bangladeshi youth Shahed Ahmed and a Brazilian girl Lucy Callen knew each other about one and a half years ago in Social Media Facebook.
They started chatting in messenger and built relationship despite living in two hemispheres separated by over 10 thousand miles in far distance, different in faith, race and color.
On February 20, Lucy Callen from Brazil with 15-day visas arrived at Sylhet Osmani International Airport. Shahed was there to welcome her. The next day, both Lucy and Shahed moved to Sylhet court to bind each other in marriage.
Lucy became Muslim and got married. Shahed accepted her as wife giving her Tk 3.25 as’Denmohar’ (dowry)
Getting permission from her parents, Lucy Callen came to Bangladesh for love and compassion, leaving behind the language, religion and culture of his country. The news of this marriage spread to Bilpar village of Zakiganj Upazila in Sylhet. Every day people from different areas are going there to see Lucy -Shahed couple.
Lucy Callen said, she came to marry a Bangladeshi youth just like her parents. Her parents also wanted to come. But they could not come for the visa complexity. She is happy in the weather of Bangladesh and said that she wants to stay permanently in this country.
“On March 7, I am sorry to says that I have to leave for Brazil leaving my husband. I shall return to Bangladesh with long leave and Visa in near future,” she told reporter.
It is learnt, Shahed went to Dubai about six years ago. He came back few years ago and joined the Ansar Force. Shahed said, cell phone and Facebook helped him develop the relationships.
“At first I did not know English. After few months, I learnt English. Since then, I used to talk to Lucy in English. I also spoke to Lucy’s parents,” Shahed said.
