COVID-19 outbreak: BRAC UDP distributes relief package to poor

BRAC Urban Development Programme (UDP) on Tuesday started the distribution of essential food package for poor people in the city’s two slums at Korail of Banani and Shahidnagar of Lalbagh amid the efforts to curb the Coronavirus thrust
BRAC UDP will distribute 7500 food packages from door to door of destitute men , who have lost their jobs as the government has imposed countrywide 10-day long ‘general holiday’.
Besides, the government’s response to tackle the COVID-19, BRAC UDP has taken different awareness-building programmes like hand washing, disinfecting public places and transport, distributing hand rub, liquid soap and soap bar, and distributing essential food packages and disbursing cash in 20 cities.
The said package contains seven kg rice, one kg lentil, one kg edible oil, one kg salt, two kgs flour, two pieces of hand soap, and half a kg detergent powder.
In the distribution programme at Korail slum, UDP Director Dr Md. Liakat Ali said that BRAC UDP in the last two weeks worked for building awareness on frequent hand washing, maintaining physical distance and disinfecting public places and transports to contain the pandemic.
At Korail, Ward No. 19 Ward councillor Mofizur Rahman Mofiz and at Shahidnagar Ward No. 24 Councillor Mokaddes Hossen Jahid, BRAC UDP’s Mohammed Abdus Salam, Masud Ahmad, SK Mojibul Huq and Sajal Kumar Saha, were present.
UDP has distributed around 250,000 leaflets and stickers among the mass people by setting up 42 booths in Narayanganj, Cumilla, Chattogram, Cox’s Bazar, Sirajganj, Faridpur, Mymensingh, Sylhet, Rangpur, Gaibandha, Rajshahi, Rangpur, Syedpur, Satkhira, Khulna, Barisal, Gazipur, Tongi and Savar. UDP also sanitized around 200,000 people and distributed around 250,000 liquid soap sachets and 50,000 soap bars among poor people in 12 cities and eight municipalities.
