Bangladesh Railway (BR) signed a deal with India’s leading rail construction company ‘Larsen and Toubro Limited’ to construct a railway bridge over the river Rupsha.
General Manager of the BR Mojibor Rahman and Vice President of Larsen and Toubro Limited P Niranjana on Monday signed the deal on behalf of their respective sides, aimed at further improving the railway services in South-Western Bangladesh.
Railways Minister M Mazibul Haque, Secretary of the Ministry M Feroz Salauddin, BR Director General Amjad Hossain, Railway Advisor of Indian High Commission and concerned senior officials were present.
Addressing the ceremony, Mazibul Haque said the Taka 1,076.445 crore project would be implemented under the Indian Line of Credit (LoC) to connect Mongla port with Khulna.
“We have taken up a 64.75-kilometer new railway line construction alongside the Rupsha bridge from Khulna to Mongla port to provide safe, reliable, cost-effective and time efficient services,” he said.
He said the Indian company, under its credit line, would construct the bridge to establish a new rail-line between Khulna and Mongla to connect the country’s second seaport with the railway network.
