Bangladesh Railway (BR) is now implementing 48 projects involving Taka 33647.22 crore for further development of the country’s communication system, Railway Minister Muzibul Haque said Monday.
Replying to written question from Jatiya Party lawmaker Begum Salma Islam (Dhaka-1), the minister said Taka 3449.98 crore have been allocated against the 48 schemes in the Revised Annual Development Programme in the current fiscal.
“The work on the projects is being completed fast,” he said, adding through implementation of these schemes, Bangladesh Railway would play a more important role in the country’s communication system.
Muzibul said the government has given highest importance to Bangladesh Railway to build it as a safe, cost-effective, environment-friendly and passenger service-oriented public transport medium by making it time-befitting and increasing its capacity.
