A total of 1889 gatekeepers of Bangladesh Railway started a fast unto death programme in front of the administrative building of the Kamalapur Railway Station on Sunday, demanding their job regularisation under the revenue budget. They got appointment under a development project.
The gatekeepers said they have been working since 2016. In a press release they also claimed that the Prime Minister had directed the Railway Ministry to take necessary initiatives for the regularisation of their job under the revenue budget. But, the Ministry has not taken any visible initiative yet to this effect.
They said they submitted a memorandum and letter to the Railway Ministry stating their sufferings and demanding their job under revenue budget. The authority fixed the salary at Tk 14,450 for one gatekeeper during the appointment, but not increased till date according to the press release.
Sujan Ahmed, Md Al Amin, Kawsar, Mahbub Alam Maful, Alfahaz, Jabedul Haque, Md Masudul Islam, Rupa Parveen, Kazi Piyash, Sohel and Chhoton, among others, attended the fast unto death programme.
