Defending champions Gazi Group Cricketers finally returned to the winning streak in the Dhaka Premier Division Cricket League as they managed a 29-run victory over Mohammedan Sporting Club Limited in a low scoring match on Tuesday at Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Mirpur.
Batting first after winning the toss, Gazi Group suffered early batting debacle and were all out for 137 in 35.4 overs. Asif Ahmed (35) and Nadif Chowdhury (28) were the notable scorers for Gazi’s dilapidated innings.
Qazi Onik grabbed four wickets of Gazi conceding 28 runs while Mohammad Azim hauled three wickets giving away 32 runs.
In reply, Mohammedan found the chase stiff and was cheaply dismissed at a paltry total of 108 in 33.2 overs.
Raqibul Hasan top scored with 22 runs while skipper Shamsur Rahman added 19 as Mohammedan lost wickets at regular intervals in the face of tight bowling display by the Gazi Group bowlers.
Nayeem Hasan and Kamrul Islam Rabbi were the pick of Gazi Group bowlers as they shared three Mohammedan’s wickets each conceding 27 and 35 runs respectively.
Besides, Mehedi Hasan and Tipu Sultan shared two Mohammedan’s wickets each. Nayeem Hasan of Gazi Group was named the player of the match for his impressive bowling performance.
