Bourses end week with cheerful mode

Country’s premier bourse, Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE), ended week observing a superb session, as market started with cheerful mode and continued till the closure.
The index remained in green over the last two consecutive sessions as the enthusiastic investors were active on the bank and telecom sector stocks on the lucrative price levels.
Apart from these two sectors, pharma, food and fuel and power sectors also witnessed buying spree which helped the benchmark index to close 81.6 points higher over last session.
The broad index, DSEX closed at 4149.82 points on Thursday, last working day of week, with a gain of 81.62 points or 2.00 percent.
Besides, two selective indices, Blue Chip index, DSE30 and Shariah index, DSES also went up by 35.36 points and 26.03 points to settle at 1406.59 points and 940.29 points respectively.
On the DSE trading floor, a total number of 100,995 trades were executed in on Thursday’s trading session with a trading volume of 101.25 million securities.
However, the market observed some liquidation on financial institutions, textile and cement sector stocks. Investors’ participation has increased by 10.2% over the previous session.
Gainers took a strong lead over losers as out of 353 issues traded, 194 securities gained price while 112 declined and 47 remained unchanged.
Most of the sectors witnessed better performance on Thursday. Among the major sectors based on market capitalization – telecom (4.5%), bank (2.1%), pharma (3.9%) food (1.9%) and fuel & power (0.5%) sectors achieved price appreciation while financial institutions (-0.2%), textile (-0.2%) and cement (-2.4%) sectors witnessed correction, according to a market operator, International Leasing Securities.
It added the investors’ activity was mostly centered on pharma (14.1%), bank (12.9%) and engineering (11.6%) sectors.
The top 10 gainers were Anlima Yarn, Eastern Insurance, Square Pharma, Sea Pearl Beach, Sonar Bangla Insurance, Standard Ceramic, FAS Finance, ICB AMCL First Agrani Bank Mutual Fund, Republic Insurance and Standard Bank.
Square Pharma topped the turnover chart followed by LafargeHolcim Bangladesh, ADN Telecom, Sea Pearl Beach, Brac Bank, Grameenphone, Ring Shine Textile, Beacon Pharma, KPCL and Standard Ceramic.
The top 10 losers were SS Steel, ADN Telecom, Aziz Pipes, Premier Cement, United Air, Ring Shine Textile, Heidelberg Cement, Aramit Cement, Golden Harvest Agro and Northern Jute.
On the other hand, port city bourse, Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) also closed at green continuing the winning trend of previous day.
CSCX and CASPI increased by 129.90 points and 207.81 points to stand at 7634.76 points and 12600.85 points respectively.
At CSE, a total of 4,831,410 shares and mutual fund of 217 companies were traded, of which 103 issues advanced while 87 declined and 27 issues remained unchanged.
