Country’s capital bourse, Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) closed on positive note on Thursday amid upward expectation from the investors with the index crossing 5,200-mark after one month.
DSE’s core index closed at 5,201.42 points with a sharp rise of 14.22 points. The Shariah index, DSES also increased by 2.24 points at 1192.22 and the blue chips, DS30 rose by 0.75 points to stand at 1837.75.
In DSE, a total of 9.79 crore shares and mutual funds of 352 companies were traded, of which, 228 issues advanced while 63 issues declined and 61 issues remained unchanged. However, the market turnover decreased and stood at Taka 4.1 billion by the end of the session.
According to a market operator, EBL Securities, the market regained momentum as investors kept on taking fresh positions on their portfolio at the current lucrative price level.
Investors’ exerted buying pressure on sector specific stocks, especially from telecommunication, fuel and power, and food and allied sectors.
Most of the sectors depicted shining performance on Thursday at DSE. Sector wise performance exposed that – Mutual Fund (3.4%), Telecommunication (2.6%) and General Insurance (2.0%) sector experienced highest price appreciation while Jute(-2.1%) and Services and Real Estate (-0.7%) sector experienced price correction.
Investors’ attention were mostly concentrated on Fuel and Power (13.8%), Life Insurance (13.6%) and Pharmaceuticals and Chemicals (11.4%) sectors. The top ten gainers were – SEML LEC Mutual Fund, VAML Rupali Bank Balanced Fund, SEML FBSL Growth Fund, Prime Finance First Mutual Fund, SEML IBBL Shariah Fund, ICB Agrani First Mutual Fund, ICB 3rd NRB Mutual Fund, ICB Sonali 1st Mutual Fund, CAPM IBBL Mutual Fund and Dhaka Insurance.
United Power topped the list in terms of transaction followed by Khulna Power, ZMI Syringe, Grameenphone, Fortune Shoes, Bangladesh Shipping Corporation, Monno Ceramics, Bongos Limited, BSCCL and Square Pharma.
Besides, the top ten losers were United Air, Emerald Oil, Northern Jute, Savar Refectories, ICB AMCL 2nd Mutual Fund, Marcentile Insurance, Saif Power, Green Delta Insurance, Altex Industries and Confidence Cement.
On the other hand, the port city bourse, CSE closed in green zone on the day. CSCX & CASPI increased by 27.23 and 44.63 points respectively to stand at 9660.90 and 15896.69.
In CSE, a total of 55.30 lakh shares of 257 companies were traded, of which 144 issues advanced while 74 issues declined and 39 remained unchanged.
