The refiners increased the prices of bottled soybean oil and refixed it to an earlier rate of Tk 153 a litre.
The Bangladesh Vegetable Oil Refiners and Vanaspati Manufacturers Association took the decision in a meeting with the commerce ministry officials.
The retail price of loose soybean oil will be Tk 129 per litre and loose palm at Tk 116 per litre. Besides, the price of a five-litre bottle has been set at Tk 728.
Earlier on May 27, the refiners increased the price of edible oil by Tk 9 per litre, raising price of the bottled soybean oil to Tk 153 per litre from Tk 144.
But later in July, they reduced the prices by Tk 4 per litre to Tk 149 considering the purchasing capacity of consumers ahead of the Eid-ul-Azha amid the Covid-19 pandemic.
In a press release, the association said they have raised the oil prices as the prices of the mandatory cooking ingredient have increased in the international markets recently.
In last one year, the edible oil prices have increased by around 160 per cent in the internal market, they said, adding that the oil prices have increased by 35 to 40 per cent in the local market.
