Staff Reporter :
Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) has said that two men who were killed in a blast-at a suspected militant den in Bosila on Monday-were members of banned militant outfit Jama’atul Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB).
However, the elite force is yet to confirm the identities of the militants. RAB Legal and Media Wing Director Mufti Mahmud Khan said the two susptects were members of a JMB group trying to reorganize.
He mentioned that a case was filed under the Anti-Terrorism Act 2009 at Mohammadpur police station in this regard.
“Terrorism is a worldwide problem. Militant groups are constantly trying to reorganize and partake in malicious activities.
We prioritize anti-terrorism. There are no specific threats in our country right now,” he said.
“We have collected DNA samples for tests,” he said.
The law enforcement agencies have destroyed JMB networks by arresting their leaders and activists.
“Islamic State (IS) groups do not exist in our country,” he said.
When asked about the improvised bomb that exploded on Monday in Gulistan-and IS claiming responsibility for the attack-the RAB official said: We are investigating the matter.
Meanwhile, five to six unknown people were made accused in a case filed in connection with the raid that left two suspects killed in Bosila yesterday.
Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) filed the case with Mohammadpur Police Station early Tuesday against the two dead “militants” and three to four unknown persons, said RAB-2 Commanding Officer Ashik Billah.
The suspected militants were killed after they allegedly detonated improvised explosive devices in a house in the city’s Bosila area during the raid.
RAB-2 CO Ashik Billah told the reporters, “The two dead are still unidentified”.
RAB cordoned off the corrugated-iron-sheet structure around 3:00am on Monday following a tip off that members of Jama’atul Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB) were there with explosives.
