The farmers of Bogra district have made Boro seedbeds ready aiming to finish their tasks ahead of the severe cold and foggy weather as harvesting of T-Aman paddy has already been completed in most of the areas last week.
After cultivating different Robi-crops , now they have started preparing seedbed hoping for a bumper production as a good number of farmers incurred huge losses as Boro seedlings in twelve upazilas of Bogra districts were damaged due to cold injuries caused by severe cold spell and foggy weather.
Department of Agriculture Extension office sources said, over 1, 90,000 hectares of land will be taken under coming Boro cultivation across the district including Barind tract targeting 0.55 million tonnes of paddy. They have made ready seedbeds early with the hope to grow healthy and mature seedlings during the winter season, sources added.
Sub-assistant agriculture officer Hossain Ali said, last year many farmers could not protect their seedbeds from the affect of cold even after spraying medicines, still Boro seedbeds in many areas had turned yellowish and perished eventually.
A farmer Abdul Mannan at Baksa Para village under Dhunot upazila said, last year he had to procure quality Boro seeds at high prices for ready 7 decimal seedbeds in a bid to get better yield but his seedbeds got damaged owing to intense cold.
So, this season he has already completed preparing seedbeds in order to prevent any adverse impact as cold wave may hit very soon, he also said.
