Boro rice procurement drive progressing fast in Gaibandha

Boro rice procurement drive of food department has been progressing fast in the district since May amid much enthusiasm to the millers.
Office sources said the government has fixed a target to procure a total of 29,433 tonnes of boiled rice from the millers through 11 purchasing centers of all the seven upazilas in the district during the current Boro season.
Price of per kg of boiled rice has also been fixed at Tk 32, the sources said.
To make the Boro rice procurement drive a grand success, the department of food has also performed their agreement with the 753 millers of the district.
Of the total, 18,817 tonnes of rice had already been purchased from the millers, said an official of the food department.
M. Amzad Hossain, district controller of food, told BSS the rice procurement target must be achieved easily as it would continue in the district till August, 2015.
Necessary measures had also been taken to procure 2,651 tonnes of paddy from the farmers so that they would get fair prices against their food grain to earn economical benefit, he also said.
Dev work of Zilla Parishad progressing
Development work of 330 projects undertaken by Gaibandha Zilla Parishad (ZP) has been progressing fast in the district for few months last under annual development programme.
The project works are being executed at the cost of Tk 3.55 crore while the government of Bangladesh and ZP are jointly providing the fund, office sources said.
The projects include construction of bridge and culvert, installation of tube wells and sanitary latrines, wheel chair, solar panel, furniture and sports materials distribution, and repairing academic and religious institutions, said M. Siddiqur Rahman, an Engineer of Zilla Parishad. Average 90 percent work of the projects had already been completed and the rest work would be finished by August next, it was expected, he added.
Kallol Kumar Chakrabartee, chief executive officer of ZP, said like the previous years the project works are being implemented here at the directives of the higher authorities concerned of the Ministry of Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives considering the public interest.
