Boro paddy procurement drives going on in dists

The procurement drive of Boro paddy and rice begins in Boda upazila of the district on Saturday amid much enthusiasm.
Official sources said the government has set up a target to purchase a total of 1183 tonnes of paddy from the farmers directly of the district during the current season.
Upazila Nirbahi Officer Md. Sayed Mahamud Hasan formally inaugurated the ocurement drive at local supply depot of the upazila.
Under the drive, the farmers will get the opportunity to sell their Boro paddy directly to the purchasing centers at the rate of Tk 26 per kg while the rice millers will get the chance to sell their improved quality rice in the purchasing centers at the rate of Tk 36 per kg.
BSS from Joypurhat adds: Procurement of Boro paddy and rice has been started in all the five upazilas of the district on Thursday with the main thrust of facilitating the farmers towards getting fair price of the newly harvested food grain.
Office sources said the government has fixed a target to procure a total of 2014 tonnes of paddy and 21418 tonnes of rice from local farmers through seven purchasing centres of the Food Department during the current Boro season.
Of them, 480 tonnes of paddy and 5586 tonnes of rice would be procured in Joypurhat Sadar, 574 tonnes of paddy and 5090 tonnes of rice in Panchbibi 206 tonnes of paddy and 1392 tonnes of rice in Akkelpur, 337 tonnes of paddy and 4097 of rice in Kalai and 327 tonnes of paddy and 4049 tonnes of rice in Khetlal upazilas sources said.
Beside, 90 tonnes of paddy and 598 tonnes of rice would be procured from Molangari purchasing center and 609 tonnes of rice would be procured from Jamalganj purchasing centers.
Price of per kg Boro paddy has been fixed at Tk 26 and rice Tk 36 sources said.
Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Zakir Hossain formally inaugurated the drive today through purchasing paddy from the farmers at local supply depot in Sadar upazila as the chief guest.
