Boro paddy harvesting is progressing fast in six unions of Dupchanchia Uapzila in Bogra district.
According to Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE) sources, the farmers of the six unions of Dupchanchia upazila have brought over 23000 hectares of land under boro rice cultivation with 38000 tonnes production target in this season. They have already harvested 9,000 hectares of land till 14 may, source added.
“I have cultivated two bighas of land under the crop cultivation spending Tk 7,000 and harvested one bighas of land on Sunday and got 18 mounds of fresh paddy yield.” said farmer Hafizar Rahman at Gunaher upazila of Bogra district. He again said, “Per mound of newly harvested row paddy is being sold from Tk 800 to 830 in the local kitchen market.”
Farmer Yakub Ali, 35, at Kuraher village said, he has started harvesting the boro paddy own self and getting fair market price. A reputed NGO has taken an extensive programme along with government organisarion for cultivation of the eco- friendly, short duration variety jeera rice on seven bigha lands in this current season, he added.
Getting the assistance, the beneficiary farmers prepared boro rice seedbeds in last January and completed seedling transplantation by February last. Boro rice plants were growing excellent amid favourable climatic conditions predicted bumper production this season.
Upazila agriculture officer said, the price of newly harvested paddy at the growers’ level is remaining high and the farmers are making a good profit. The farmers will start harvesting the crop mid week of May in a full swing, he added.
