Cultivation of Boro paddy is progressing fast in all the six upazils of the district during the current season amid much enthusiasm among the farmers.
Due to favorable climate condition farmers of the district are now working round the clock in their paddy field for transplanting Boro seedlings expecting a bumper production of Boro paddy.
According to Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE) sources that a total of 54710 hectares of land would be brought under Boro paddy cultivation in the district this season. Of them 53000 hectares of land would be cultivated under High Yielding Variety (HYV) of the paddy,1210 hectares would be under high-bred variety and 1000 hectares are under local variety.
Suvash Chandra Gayan, Deputy Director DAE, Narsingdi told The New Nation that there is no shortage of Boro seedlings in the district. Farmers in the meantime have already been cultivated about 30 percent of the total targeted land. He said if there is no climate hazard a total of 211279 tons of Boro rice are expected to e produced in the district this season.
He said the local DAE provided the farmers with logistic support including fertilizers and necessary equipments. BADC supplied quality seeds at fair prices and different commercial Banks distributed easy term loan to the farmers.
