Harvesting of Boro has started in full swing every where in Haor districts Kishoreganj, Mymensingh, Netrokona, Habiganj, Sunamganj, Sylhet, Moulovi Bazar and B’Baria amid labourers crisis .
Paddy prices have registered a significant fall with the beginning of Boro-Irri hervest across the country. It has made the farmers frustrated, as they are going to face loss for two consecutive seasons.
Boro is the biggest cropping season in the country which supplies 55 percent of the national demand for staple food, followed by Aman 35 percent and Aus 5.50 percent. Experts said that, the milers, importers and their allied traders should also be brought under strict strutting as they are making a windfall profit, depriving the common consumers of law rice price.
The government will buy seven lakh tonnes of Boro paddy an six lakh tonnes of rice from the growers from May 5 to August 31 of this year. Paddy will by at Tk. 23 per kg and rice at Tk. 32 only.
A good number of Haor region farmers are suffering much dut to unavailability of day labours fro harvesting the Boro paddy.
20 saw mills owners fined : A mobile court of Kishoreganj Distrit Administration in a special drive fined 20 owners of saw mills on Monday noon. The mobile court led by ADC (General) & Ist Class Megistrate Tarafder Md. Akhter Jamil conducted the drive at Sholakia Eidgah road, Newtown and Binnagaon under Kisoreganj town. During the drive the court also fined total Tk. 1.85 lakh for Saw mills Act 2012.
The saw mills which were fined are : Abu Bakker Saw Mills, Al-Amin Saw Mills Hossain Saw Mills, Nurani Saw Mills, Sundarvan Saw Mills, Ahad- 1 Saw Mills, Ahad Saw Mills (2), Mostafa Saw Mills, Samsuddin Saw Mills, Niazm Saw Mills, Shamsuddin Saw Mills, Maruf Saw Mills, Siddique Saw Mills, Alamgir Saw Mills, Suruj Miah Saw Mills, Golap Saw mills, Azad Saw Mills, Siddique Saw Mills, Billaw Saw Mills and Shah Paran Saw Mills.
