Farmers here have completed Boro paddy harvesting with yielding of 558508 tonnes of rice this season.
Department of Agricultural Extension (DAE) office sources said farmers got 2,46379 tonnes rice of high-breed variety from 49874 hectares, 311642 tonnes high yielding variety from 79500 hectares and 487 tonnes local variety from 266 hectares of land.
Farmer Mohammad Ali of Binandarpar village at Kendua union in Jamalpur Sadar Upazila said he got good yield of Boro but labour cost for harvesting was high.
Another farmer Shamim at Daudpur village in Melandah Upazila said though the labour cost was high, but the price of Boro in local market is satisfactory.
According to DAE, farmers cultivated Boro on 34750 hectares od land in Jamalpur Sadar, 18625 hectares in Sarishabari, 20200 hectares in Melandah, 16920 hectares in Islampur, 9185 hectares in Dewanganj, 16610 hectares in Madarganj and 13350 hectares in Bakshiganj Upazila.
Additional Deputy Director, DAE, Mohammad Sakhawatul Ikram said farmers already harvested the Boro paddy with good yield. He said farmers got fair price of Boro this year.
