Boro cultivation progressing fast in Narsingdi

Boro cultivation is progressing fast in all the six upazils of the district in the current season.
Due to favourable climate condition farmers of the district are now working round the clock in their paddy fields for transplanting Boro seedlings expecting a bumper production.
Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE) sources said that a total of 54, 710 hectares of land have been brought under Boro cultivation this season.
Of the total land, High Yielding Variety (HYV) of paddy have been cultivated on 53,000 hectares, high-bred variety on 1,210 hectares and local variety have been cultivated on 1,000 hectares.
Suvash Chandra gayan, Deputy Director DAE, Narsingdi told BSS that there is no shortage of Boro seedlings in the district.
Meanwhile, farmers have already cultivated about 30 percent of the total land. He said if there is no climate hazard, a total of 2,11,279 tons of Boro rice are expected to be produced in the district this season.
He said the local DAE is providing logistic support to the farmers including fertilizers and necessary equipment. BADC supplied quality seeds at fair prices and different commercial Banks disbursed loans on easy terms to the farmers.
