Boro cultivation going on in full swing in Naogaon, Netrakona

The Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE) has taken massive programme to cultivate Boro paddy in all 11 upazilas of the district in the current Boro season.
The DAE sources said, a total of 1, 98,462 hectares of land would be brought under Boro cultivation in 11 upazilas with the production target of 7.77 lakh tonnes of rice.
Of the total, 1, 860, 26 hectares of land would be brought under high yielding variety (HYV) and 12,836 hectares under hybrid variety of paddy.
Deputy Director of DAE Sattabrato Saha said the farmers of the district are ready to put in their best efforts to achieve the targeted production.
There is no shortage of Boro seedlings in the district. The farmers made seedbed on 9,655 hectares of land in the district, he said.
He added the DAE provided fertilizers, insecticides and other necessary agriculture inputs to the farmers.
BSS from Netrakona adds: Boro cultivation has been going on in full swing in all the 10 upazilas of Netrakona district, which is widely known as “grain vowel” of the country, during the current Rabi season.
District Agriculture Extension Department (DAED) office sources said, the government has designed a target to bring a total of 1,80,101 hectares of land under the Boro cultivation.
Of the total targeted land, 1,69,192 hectares of land would be brought under the high yielding variety (HYV) of paddy, 10,459 hectares of land under hybrid variety of the crop and 450 hectares under local variety.
Meanwhile, the Boro cultivators could complete transplantation of the Boro seedlings on 80,000 hectares of land in the district, said the crops specialists of the DAED of Netrakona.
Deputy Director of the DAED Bilash Chandra Paul told BSS here that the Boro cultivators are now passing their busy times in their farm lands round the clock for transplanting the Boro seedlings.
He said that there is no shortage of fertilizers in anywhere of the district.
