Boro cultivators in the district are passing a busy time for preparing their Boro field in this season.
According to Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE), Gopalganj official sources said, a total of 3,99,518 hectors of land have been brought under Boro cultivation in the district this current year. Where 2,64,448 hectors hybrid, 1,35,012 hectors upasi & 58 hectors of local variety where about 2 lac farmers involved this cultivation, sources said.
Upazila wise set up 95,406 hectors in Gopalganj Sadar Upazila, 64,071 hectors in Muksudpur upazila 57,197 hectors in Kasiani upazila, 1,27,711 hectors in Kotalipara and 55,133 hectors in Tungipara upazila in the district.
Alap Farazi (55), a farmer of village Nilokhi under Durgapur union of Sadar Upazila in Gopalganj told The New Nation He already start their work earlier on their Boro field due to dried up water in their paddy field first. this current year As a result cultivators in this region busy for prepared their Boro field and it continuing till two months, Alap said.
On the other hand, Bangladesh Agriculture Development Corporation (BADC), Gopalganj already has started various origin of seeds among the farmers in the district as early and BADC taken a target about .100 tonnes of seeds distribute to the farmers this current Boro season, by this time BADC has started distribute it.
Rafique Jammadar (48), a farmer of village Golabaria under Durgapur union of Sadar Upazila in the district said, he cultivated on two local bighas (104 decimal) of land due to low market price but last year he cultivated on four bighas of land when the paddy was high price. If the market price is continuing ongoing in this way but day by day farmers become discourage on Boro farming, Rafique added.
