The Bangladesh national football team returned home on Friday after completing their FIFA World Cup qualifiers and Asia Cup away match against strong Oman.
Following an impressive performances in the last two matches against Qatar and India, there was an expectation that the Bangladesh team would also be able to carry that momentum to Oman, however, the boys failed to meet up the expectation.
Despite a strong resistance in the first half, the second half procession was tally out of control in the hand of Bangladesh and they had to suffer a 4-1 goals defeat to Middle Eastern nation man held on Thursday.
With the day’s defeat, Bangladesh remained at the bottom of Group E of the five-team table with one point from four outings while Oman, coming into the match on the back of 2-1 defeat against group leaders Qatar, moved up with nine points playing the same number of matches.
In the remaining group matches, Bangladesh will play Afghanistan on March 26 next year in Bangladesh, Qatar on March 31 in Qatar, India on June 4 in Bangladesh and Oman on June 9 in Bangladesh.
Earlier, Bangladesh started their campaign with a 0-1 goal defeat against Afghanistan in the first match in the Tajik capital of Dushanbe on September 10, conceded a 0-2 goals defeat against Asian champions Qatar in their second match in Dhaka on October 10 and played to a 1-1 draw against India in their third match in Kolkata on October 15.
On the other hand, Oman made a flying start in the qualifiers beating India by 2-1 goals in Guwahati on September 5 and blanked Afghanistan by 3-0 goals in Al-Seeb on October 10 but suffered a 1-2 goal defeat against Qatar in Al Wakrah held on October 15.
