Boosting livestock sector can be the best way of building healthy nation through eradicating protein deficiency
Contribution of the livestock sector is immense in terms of meeting protein deficiency and socio-economic development and said there is no alternative to elevate the sector.
Veterinary and animal scientists and researchers made the observation while addressing a participatory discussion on elevation of livestock sector in Rajshahi.
Bangladesh Livestock Society (BLS) and Veterinary and Animal Sciences (VAS) Faculty of Rajshahi University (RU) jointly organised the discussion at RU cafeteria discussing and devising ways and means on how to uplift the potential sector collectively.
Prof Akhterul Islam and Prof Raihan Gafur from the VAS Faculty addressed the meeting as chief and special guests respectively, while it’s Dean and BLS President Prof Jalal Uddin Sarder was in the chair, reports BSS.
BLS General Secretary Hemayetul Islam and Executive Members Hafizur Rahman, Masud Rana, Jahid Hassan and Muntasir Rahman also spoke on the occasion.
Prof Akhterul Islam said, “Livestock sector could be developed through the best uses of existing natural resources. Information, specialised knowledge and research are needed. All concerned should come forward for flourishing the poultry sector”.
He also stressed the need for uplifting the sector for food security, self-employment and poverty reduction.
Prof Raihan Gafur called for giving due importance to adopting modern technology, promotion of high yielding varieties and farmers training to meet the gradually mounting demands of poultry birds and eggs.
He urged the service providers to reach the livestock related necessary services to the grassroots growers for boosting the animal resources, particularly cattle and goat farming.
Necessary services like production, primary treatment, deworming, vaccination and farm management should be given on priority basis to boost animal health.
