‘Amar Ekushey Boi Mela’ experienced a huge turnout on Friday, as it being weekly holiday was ornamented as the ‘Shishu Prohor’. There was a long queue of the visitors, up to the TSC, waiting for an entrance into Bangla Academy and the Suhrawardy Udyan.A large number of children accompanied by their parents were seen droning. Imtiaz Evan, a former DU student and a private service holder, who visited the fair with his six years old child, said, “My child swarm into the fair once in a week.”
“As today (Friday) is Shishu Prohor, I have come with my child. He is merry to see heaps of books and beautiful stalls. The joy of buying new books knows no bounds,” Imtiaz said.
Publishing houses did a brisk business yesterday. The sale of books is rising day by day, said Robin Ahmed, Publisher of Shrabon Publication.
On the occasion of Shishu Prohor at 11:00 am, a contest titled “Shisu-Kishore Chitrankon Protijogita” was held on the main stage of the Academy. Artist Samorjit Roy Chowdhury inaugurated the function as the chief guest. The result will be available on February 17.
Three hundred and thirteen new books landed and 43 books were unveiled on the Nazrul Manch of the Bangla Academy premises on Friday. Some of new books are “Ek Mutho Andhar of Rudro Rayehan” published by Omoraboti Publication, “Shukhi Manusher Jama” of Probash Amin and “Nirbachito 100 Kobita” of Bhuiyan Shafiqul Islam published by Anna Prokash, “Sultan Suleman Ki Dekhbo, Aporna” of Anisul Haque Published by Anupom publication and “Rajakarer Mon” of Muntasir Mamun published by Somoy publication, among other books.
A discussion titled “Rastra Bhasha Andoloner Suchona O 11 March 1948” was held on the main stage of the Academy. Economist Atiur Rahman presided at the function, while Cultural Activist Golam Kuddus was present with the keynote paper. Ahmad Mazhar and Moshiur Rahman participated as the discussants.
Later, a fascinating cultural function was held on the main stage of Academy.
Today (Saturday) the fair time is 11:00 am to 8:30 pm and for celebrating Amar Ekushey a contest titled, “Shishu-Kishore Sadharon Gan O Upastith Boktrita” primary selection round will be held at 10:00 am.
At 4:00 pm, a discussion titled “Abdul Gafur Ali: Jibon O Karmo” will be held today (Saturday) on the main stage of Academy. Shamsul Hossain will preside over the function, while Nasir Uddin Hayder will present the keynote paper. Rahman Nasiruddin and Saimon Zakaria will participate in the discussion.
At evening, a fascinating cultural function will be held.
