A local leader of Jatiyatabadi Jubo Dal got his right hand’s wrist blown off in an explosion allegedly while making bombs at a house in the city on Tuesday.
The injured man was identified as Biplab Miah, 27, assistant secretary of the district unit of Jubo Dal.
Police said the explosion took place at the house of BNP supporter Russell Miah at Robertsonganj in the city in the afternoon.
The blast blew the right hand of Biplab off at its wrist while he along with two other Jubo Dal men was making bombs there.
Biplab was taken to another house in Dhap area of the city where he was receiving treatment secretly.
On information, a police team launched a drive at the house, arrested Biplab and took him to Rangpur Medical College Hospital under their custody.
Later, a joint team of police and Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) conducted a drive at the spot and recovered some explosive materials.
