The jeep of former MP and Awami League leader Jakir Hossain was damaged as it caught fire after miscreants hurled a petrol bomb at it on the premises of Roumari Police Station early Sunday.
Officer-in-charge of Roumari Police Station Shamim Hasan Sarker said policemen rushed out of the police station complex at around 2:30am hearing a big bang only to see the Toyota Land Cruiser jeep of the former MP from Kurigram-4 constituency burning.
Later, the police personnel extinguished the fire which damaged the engine and seat of the vehicle. Besides, its windowpane on the right side was also damaged. The law enforcers recovered 20 crackers and a piece of foam soaked in petrol from the spot.
Contacted, Jakir Hossain claimed that the attack was launched in a bid to kill him.
He also said, he was scheduled to leave for the capital around 12:30am on Sunday. However, he had to cancel the trip as the driver did not turn up. A general diary was lodged in this connection.
