The Shaheed Ziaur Rahman Medical College (SZMC) in Bogra has been closed down for an indefinite period following a clash between factions of the ruling party’s student front Bangladesh Chatra League (BCL). Authorities have told students to vacate dormitories and leave the campus by 4pm on Wednesday “The academic council’s decision follows an untoward incident at the students’ hostel on Tuesday night,” SZMC Principal Dr AKM Ahsan Habib told bdnews24.com. At least six students were injured in a clash between warring factions of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL), said police. “Additional police have been deployed in the campus after the clash erupted around 10pm,” said Bogra Sadar police OC Abul Bashar. BCL leaders at the SZMC could not be reached over phone despite several attempts. Bogra district unit BCL President Naimur Razzak Titas, however, said the clash was due to a ‘misunderstanding’. “Efforts are on to resolve the misunderstanding between the two groups,” he said.
