Body of female nursing student recovered from river after missing

Dead body of a female student of Barisal Nursing Training College was recovered from Kirtankhola River at Dapdapia Ferry Ghat area in the city on Monday night after about three days of missing.
She was identified on Tuesday as Akhi Gaiin, 22, daughter of late Amal Chandra Gaiin from Kachua village under Banaripara upazila of Barisal district and third year student of Barisal Nursing Training College, said Ali Asgor Fakir, instructor of the college.
Sabita Rani Mukherjee, principal of the college, acknowledged that they failed to follow disciplinary rules about going out of female students from the campus.
A case of unnatural death was filed with Barisal Kotwali Police Station in this regard and the decomposed dead body handed over to family members without autopsy after identification on Tuesday, said Shakhawat Hossain, Officer- In- Charge of Barisal Kotwali police station.
Abdul Karim, station officer of Barisal Fire Service and Civil Defense (River) unit, said after informed by the local people they rushed Dapdapia area at north-west side of Kirtankhola River and recovered the dead body after 7:30 pm on Monday.
After recovery of the dead body it was handed over to police carrying on fire service boat on Monday night, the fire service official told.
Sub- Inspector Azmal Hossain of Kotwali PS said learning about missing of a female student of nursing training college since Saturday ( March 12) morning they operated rescue drive with help of fire service.
After recovery of the dead body we contacting with the college authourity preserve that at the morgue for identification and further action, police official told.
Police quoting local sources said Akhi jumped from Shaheed Abdur Rob Serniabad Bridge to Kirtankhola River at about 9:30 AM on Saturday March 12 perhaps to commit suicide.
