Staff Reporter: Police on Tuesday recovered the body of a nine-year-old girl from her residence in the city’s Dakshin Khan. On information, police reached the house at around 1:00am and recovered the body of Suraiya Akter, said Mosharraf Hossain, sub-inspector of Dakshin Khan Police Station.
The body bore marks of torture, the SI said. Police detained the deceased’s step mother Shibli Begum, 26, suspecting her involvement with the death, while her father Hafizul Islam had fled the scene. Suraiya used to live with Hafizul and his second wife at Noapara ever since her parents divorced.
The body was sent to Shaheed Suhrawardy Medical College Hospital morgue for autopsy to determine the cause of death.
