Atiar Rahman, Dean of the Arts Faculty of Jagannath University (JnU) has been nominated as the convenor to hold convocation for the first time of the university. JnU Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Mijanur Rahman said, “We called on agitating students for meeting who demanded convocation. We waited for them but they didn’t come. However, we formed a body to take decision about convocation selecting Atiar Rahman, Dean of Arts Faculty as the convenor. They will take decision.”
Prof Dr Atiar Rahnan, Convenor of the organizing body said “We called on protesters, active student leaders and journalists to sit meeting on 24 September at VC’s Conference room. From the meeting, we will take next decision regarding this issue”
Earlier, students of JnU staged demonstration as continuous part to press home their demand for organizing Convocation soon. Prof Mijanur Rahmna, JnU Vice-Chancellor formed organizing body to take decision about convocation. Date, Place, convocation implementation processes will be discussed on 24 September, said a press release issued by university authority.
Since the establishment of JnU in 2005, around 45,000 students have completed their graduation but have been denied a convocation ceremony. Besides, several universities, which were established after Jagannath University, have organized the convocation a number of times. Even National University has organized their convocation.
