Bodies of two female students, who went missing after a boat sank in the Shangkha River two days ago, were recovered from near the Premsia Bazar under Banshkhali upazila of Chittagong district on Saturday.
The victims were identified as Jannatul Mawa, daughter of Sirajul Islam, and Hanifa Akhter, daughter of Mostaque Ahmed, residents of Juidandi area under Anwara upazila.
Jannatul was a student of Class VI while Hanifa a student of Class VII at Nurain Senior Fajil Madrasa in Banshkhali.
“Locals spotted the bodies floating near the tragic spot in the morning and informed police.
“We have already handed over their bodies to the family members,” said Anwara thana OC Dulal Mahmud.
On Thursday, an engine-run boat capsized in the Shangkha River at
Raichhota in Banshkhali upazila on Thursday morning. About 17 students however managed to swim ashore, but the duo went missing.
