Bodies of two children have been recovered from a canal and the septic tank of a house situated within two kilometres, respectively, in Dhaka’s Sabujbagh area.
Sabujbagh police OC Abdul Kuddus Fakir said bodies of Shamim Hossain, 12, and Saik Sadaf Ifty, 5, were found on Friday morning. According to neighbours of both families, Shamim’s father is an auto-rickshaw driver and Ifty’s father works at power department’s Dohar office.
Both children live in the area with their families. Police said Shamim had tripped and fell into the WASA drainage canal at Purba Basabo on Thursday while playing with his friends.
Fire Service control room official Mizanur Rahman said their divers found his body at around 9am Friday.
Meanwhile, Ifty’s body was recovered from the septic tank of a house at Uttar Manikdi.
Sabujbagh police Sub-Inspector Babu Sarkar said, “The tank had no cover. We think the boy fell in while playing.” But the causes of both children’s deaths would be determined after the autopsies, he added.
