Boca Juniors won the Maradona Cup in Riyadh on Tuesday after defeating Barcelona 4-2 in a penalty shootout.
The game was held at King Saud University Stadium in Riyadh in honor of Diego Maradona, one of the sport’s biggest icons.
Neither side scored in the first half of the match, and in the second half each team struck a goal to draw in regular time.
The game marked just over a year since the passing of Maradona, who was laid to rest on Nov 25. The two teams participating in Tuesday’s event had met ten times previously in friendlies, with Boca having won five and lost four.
The match was part of Riyadh Season 2021 that opened in October with various local and international activities.
