Ancestral profession as Boatman (Majji) from decades after decades consists of a number of area based associations in Chattogram held a press conference at Chattogram Press club hall on Monday with Piyar Ali in the chair.
A boatman ( majji ) and also noted freedom fighter involved with jackpot operation in Chattogram on August 15, 1971 Abdul Mannan (82) spoke in the press meet. In question to the journalists ,he said ‘I have seen 1947, 1952 and 1971 scenarios of Bangladesh liberation war and actively fight against the occupation forces in Chattogram Port areas.
He was the founder President of Bangla Bazar Sampan Ghat Samity before independence of Bangladesh. He said during the period of Bangabandhu’s daughter Sheikh Hasina, it is quite absurd to snatch our river ghats through forceful occupy by capitalist business blocks for their interest. This press meet was told against the occupying the ghats by burgers , the entire maji society of Chattogram will launch strike for indefinite periods with hunger strike.

Yousuf, Charpathergatha Bridgeghat Sampan Chalak Samity president Jafar Ahmed, Karnaphuli Majji Kaylan samity Org secretary Abul Hossain, Mattabarghat samity President Abdus sukkur, President of 12 No.ghat Md Idrish, General secy of 14 No;ghat Md. Solaiman,etc were present in the meet.
The press meet was told that until the concerned authority to fulfill their demands of ownership of ghats(river landing base) through lease deed to the respective Samity otherwise movement will be continued .
Chairman of Chattogram Regional Cultural Research Centre Oliur Rahman, journalist leader Kazi Mohsin in the press meet said people will accept Karnaphuli without Baita and the conspirators against the traditional ancestral majhi families will be dealt with seriously.
