A road in Amirabad union of Lohagara,Chattogram on the way to disappear due to Boalia canal erosion Mosques and cemeteries are also under threat. The breakdown took place on the road in Barpara area of West Amirabad Rokeya in Ward 2 of the union. If not repaired soon, roads, mosques and cemeteries may be washed away in the current monsoon. So the quick reconstruction of road has been demanded..
It is learned that Amirabad School Road has extended from Battali Station of Upazila Sadar to the mouth of three canals at the junction of Dolu, Tankabati and Boalia canals. At the last boundary of the 4 km road, erosion has occurred at Boaliakhal in Barpara area of Rokeya. Garangia and Bardona areas of Satkania upazila are just across the mouth of three canals. Hundreds of people, including people from those areas, travel on this road every day.
Some parts of the road adjacent to the mosque have already collapsed due to the erosion of Boaliakhal in Rokeya Barpara area of West Amirabad. Vehicles and pedestrians are moving at risk in that place. If the erosion of the canal is not stopped in the current monsoon, roads, mosques and cemeteries may disappear in the womb of the canal. Mostaq Ahmed, President of the Rokeya Bar Jame Mosque Steering Committee, said the first mosque was built in 1904 at the initiative of locals with fences, wood, bamboo and soil.
The mosque was then half-finished. A few years ago, the mosque was rebuilt at a cost of around Rs 60 lakh at the initiative of the locals. Roads, mosques and ancient cemeteries are under threat due to the recent erosion of the Boalia Canal about 20 feet deep. He drew the attention of the concerned authorities to take immediate and effective steps to protect the mosque built with the efforts of the locals.
