BSS, Dhaka :
Syed Shahed Reza, secretary general of Bangladesh Olympic Association (BOA), believes recently won Olympic Council of Asian (OCA) “Merit Award” will inspire him to bring more laurel for country’s sports.
He was talking to BSS on Friday as this correspondent asked what does this award meant to him.
Shahed said: “It’s the biggest achievement in my sports organizer’s carrier and not only made me proud but it was also a great honor for Bangladesh to be nominated among the best of Asian Sports organizers. This award will work like a magic tonic to me and I vow to dedicate myself for the development of sports in Bangladesh.”
Earlier, last week, Philippines’ vice president Jejomar “Jojo” Binay handed over the rare honor to the five sport personalities of the 45 countries of Asia for their outstanding contribution in sports and Shahed Reza was one of them.
When asked how lucky was to win this coveted award, Reza said, ” To be honest I can consider myself lucky as we have a Prime Minister like Sheikh Hasina who is herself a great lover of sports. As you must have noticed that because of her farsightedness, Bangladesh has successfully hosted World Cup cricket, SA Games and Bangladesh Games in last three years only because PM made sure that a good amount of funds was always ready for the infrastructure, management and hosting of these events at short notice.”
“I felt at the top of the moon when Prime Minister herself congratulated me with a message at my cell phone,” added the BOA secretary general.
Then it followed by Information Minister Hasanul Haq Inu in a message congratulated him and said, “We are proud of your achievement to earn such a rare honor to keep our nation’s flag fluttering high with the World leading countries.
Then another message was very touching as Dr Gowher Rizvi, adviser to the Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in his message said, ” Heartiest Congratulations. In awarding you Merit OCA has honored you and the nation. Today we all stand taller”.
Cultural Affairs Minister Asaduzzaman Noor in his message said: ” It’s indeed a great feat as you are one of the five persons selected from Asia for this coveted achievement.
Shahed added on then there very encouraging messages from all corners of Bangladesh urges and inspires him more for international feats to keep Nation’s flag fluttering at the highest level.
