BNS area to witness virtual shutdown with Socceroos’ arrival for WCQ

Asian champions and four time World Cup finals participants Australia arrive here on Monday evening for their first-ever visit to Bangladesh to play the FIFA World Cup/Asia Cup Qualifiers against minnows Bangladesh on Tuesday.
The game will kick off at 5:30 pm at Bangabandhu National Stadium in Dhaka.
Bangladesh conceded a 5-0 defeat against giant Australia in their first appearance in Perth in Sept 3 this year.
The Australian Football team will arrive in Dhaka from Singapore on Monday at 6 pm after staying two days in Singapore and will leave the capital on Tuesday night after playing the match. Earlier, the Socceroos were schedule to arrive here on Saturday.
Soon after reaching the capital, the Australian will check-in at Westin Hotel in Gulshan and will address a press conference at the same hotel at 8 pm. Hosts Bangladesh team will also address a press conference at the BFF House Monday afternoon.
Meanwhile, all the business outlets will remain closed and vehicular movements suspended around Bangabandhu National Stadium (BNS) area on November 16 and 17 to ensure foolproof security to Australia football team.
The decision was taken in a meeting held at the conference room of the Ministry of Youth and Sports last Thursday (Nov 12), chaired by joint secretary of the ministry Mir Khurshid Anwar.
Higher officials from Ministry of Home Affairs, Ministry of Youth and Sports, Ministry of Information, Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Bangladesh Football Federation were present at the meeting.
Captain of Bangladesh National Football team Mamunul Islam Mamun took part in a campaign named “Rise of Football” at school level in the capital to inspire the school boys and girls ahead of the game.
During the campaign at Scholastica and Shaheed Anwar Girls School on Sunday, Mamunul inspired the new generation and school students in football and perused them to support the national football team appearing at the stadium.
