SM Mizanur Rahman :Some Cabinet members and senior Awami League leaders on Friday turned down BNP acting secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir’s proposal for forging a national unity against militancy and extremism.They expressed grave concern over Fakhrul’s call, saying those involved in carrying out arson and petrol attacks and killing people in three months are now calling for a national unity, and it does mean that they want more anarchy and terrorism.A deep-rooted conspiracy is now being hatched against the country, they said, calling upon the people to remain alert against all sorts of conspiracy against the nation.On Thursday, Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir called for forging a national unity against militancy and extremism to resolve the country’s ‘ongoing political crisis.'”There will be no national unity with those who do politics of petrol bomb and instigate and patronise the militancy and terrorism,” Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader said on Friday while speaking at a discussion at Shilpakala Academy in the city.He asked BNP to cut off its relations with the militants if the party wants a national unity. Speaking at the same function Food Minister Advocate Qamrul Islam turned down Mirza Fakhrul’s national unity call saying there will be no national unity with those who patronise and finance militancy and terrorism.”A national unity already exists in the country in the current situation against militancy and terrorism,” he said. Talking to The New Nation on Friday Awami League presidium member Kazi Zafrullah said though late the call for unity among political parties to counter terrorism is a welcome move from BNP. “But we are afraid if it is just a political move debut of any sincerity,” he said.He, however, added everybody is aware that it is Jamaat-e-Islami and Shibir who are involved in terrorist activities in the country with the political patronage of BNP.”So we hope that this time they would show sincere and not treat it as a political stunt,” said the AL Presidium member.Liberation War Affairs Minister AKM Mozammel Haque on Friday rejected BNP acting secretary general’s proposal, terming it as another conspiracy. “BNP and Jamaat are hatching conspiracy at home and abroad to tarnish the image of the country as well as make the situation unstable. There will be no national unity with those who are involved in politics of militancy and terrorism,” he said while addressing a human chain in front if the National Press Club. Information Minister Hasanul Haq Inu termed the Fakhrul’s call as another conspiracy, saying there will be no national unity with a political party like BNP which patronises and instigate militancy in the country  “At first tell us how and in what way the administration had protected the killers of August 21 grisly carnage during the BNP-Jamaat rule. Give us the answer and later talk about forging the national unity,” he said while speaking at a gathering at his village Golapnagar in Bheramara Upazila of Kushtia district. He said the killings of two foreign nationals in the country were not stray incidents.”A deep conspiracy is being hatched to obstruct the country’s development work. And as part of the conspiracy, the two foreign nationals were murdered in a planned way,” he said.
