BNP has insulted the people of Gazipur by rejecting the results of Gazipur City Corporation (GCC) elections, said Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader on Wednesday.
Strongly condemning such negative sentiment, the AL General Secretary said, whereas the polls have been held in a free and fair manner, branding the election as a sign of vote rigging, they (BNP) have acted contrary to the rights of Gazipur people and democratic convention,”
The Road, Transport and Bridges Minister reacted to the BNP’s statement in the above way at a press conference organised in the party president’s Dhanmondi political office in Dhaka.
Earlier in the morning, BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir rejected the Gazipur city polls and demanded fresh election bringing allegations of irregularities.
Replying to a query on Fakhrul’s reaction, Quader said, “Ask them to lodge complaints with the foreigners. I think their complaints would neither be accepted by the people of Gazipur nor by the foreigners.
Through the GCC polls, the people of Bangladesh have again proven that the days of negative politics are over, concluded the AL’s top leader.
