Staff Reporter :
Secretary General of Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir on Sunday said that his party’s previous decision of boycotting the 11th Parliament was wrong.
“We should keep it in mind that nothing can be achieved by romantic slogans. Our acting chairman has taken the right decision as we have to fight both in and outside Parliament,” Fakhrul said.
The BNP leader further said, “I don’t have any hesitation to say that our earlier decision of not going to parliament was not right at this moment. We must carry on our fight on all the fronts.”
Fakhrul said this while speaking at a discussion marking 4th death anniversary of BNP leader Nasir Uddin Ahmed Pintu held in the Jatiya Press Club organised by Sammilita Chhatra Forum.
Fakhrul claimed that their party was fully united without any rift in it.
He suggested the BNP leaders not to disclose party’s internal problems in any public meeting.
“I urge you all to talk about party problems in party forums only,” he said.
Meanwhile, after much speculations, the remaining four Members of Parliament elect with the BNP ticket for the

December 30’s 11th National Election took oath on April 29 this year. Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir did not take the oath and later his seat (Bogura-6) was declared vacant.
The four MPs claimed that they took the oath on advice of their party senior Vice-Chairman Tarique Rahman.
The BNP declared the December 30 National Election as farcical saying that they would not take part in the parliament. But suddenly the BNP changed the decision in this regard.
The BNP won only six seats in the December 30 polls. The Jatiya Oikya Front alliance led by the BNP bagged a total of eight seats, including two of Gono Forum.
An MP-elect must take oath within 90 days of the first sitting of parliament, according to the Constitution. Accordingly, the deadline for taking oath for the MPs-elect was April 29.
