Information Minister Dr Hasan Mahmud has said BNP’s politics is now at the rock-bottom as its convicted acting chairperson Tarique Rahman is destroying the party.
“Awami League doesn’t need to do anything to destroy BNP and its politics. Instead, its convicted leader Tarique Rahman on it to completely destroy the party,” said the Information Minister, now in London.
Hasan, also Publication and Publicity Secretary of the ruling party, made the remarks while addressing a rally by the UK Awami League in London on Wednesday evening, said a media release on Thursday.
Hasan said Tarique does politics sitting in London through the Skype which is banned by Bangladesh court.
“How can the person whose intention is to do illegal nomination trade of crores of taka bring a party to power?” the Information Minister said.
Highlighting various activities under the leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, he said the government is working in a way so that all the civic amenities reach the mass people.
Responding to a question after the rally, the Information Minister said Tarique Rahman is a convicted person and hoped that the British government will help extradite Tarique to Bangladesh to implement the court verdict.
AL leader Aminul Islam, Adv Saifuzzaman Shikhor MP, Sylhet district AL general secretary Shafiqur Rahman Chowdhury, UK AL President Sultan Sharif and UK AL general secretary Syed Sajidur Rahman Faruque, among others, spoke at the rally.
The Information Minister will also visit Belgium and France to attend a number of programmes before returning home on July 9.
