The newly formed convening committee of the Dhaka city unit of the BNP has vowed to wage a successful movement shortly in order to restore democracy and to install a democratic government. The committee, therefore, urges the party leaders and the workers to join the movement after the Eid-ul-Fitr under the leadership of BNP chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia.
The unit Convener Mirza Abbas said all these in a press conference held at the Moulana Bhashani Auditorium in the city on Wednesday after the new committee’s first meeting there.
BNP standing committee member Goyeshwar Chandra Roy, chairperson’s adviser Abdul Awal Mintoo and member-secretary of the convening committee Habib-un-Nabi Khan Sohel attended the press conference, among others. But none of the four advisors of the committee was present.
On Friday, the BNP announced a 52-member city convening committee and a 4-member advisory body
Mirza Abbas said that the BNP-led alliance guided many successful movements across the country in the past although its agitation centering Januray-5 election did not get momentum in the Dhaka city. In this backdrop, the demand for reconstitution of the city committee was raised. Following it, Khaleda Zia reconstituted the city committee to strengthen the anti-government movement, Mirza Abbas said. “We welcome the decision of our party chief. We are committed to perform our duty properly,” he said. To a question, Mirza Abbas said that there are no division and factions in the city committee. The BNP is a party of integrity and trust, and Khaleda Zia is our commander.
Reacting to the statements of ministers and the Awami League leaders about the committee, the BNP leader said, “It seems from their recent statements that they are worried about their future.”
The newly convening committee will place wreaths at the grave of BNP’s founder and late President Ziaur Rahman today (Thursday). Mirza Abbas said that they would reconstitute the thana committees and the ward units of the city as soon as possible.
The senior BNP leader Mirza Abbas called the world leaders to condemn the Israeli aggression in Gaza strop and to force the Tel Aviv government to stop genocide immediately.
