The Special Judge’s Court-4 of Dhaka yesterday acquitted BNP’s Ishraque Hossain, who was a candidate of the last Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) mayoral election, in a case lodged for not submitting his wealth statement to the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC).
Judge Shaikh Nazmul Alam of the special court passed the acquittal order in presence of Ishraque Hossain, son of former combined Dhaka City
Corporation Mayor Sadeque Hossain Khoka, in a crowded courtroom.
The judge pointed out he found no acceptable evidence to convict Ishraque. The prosecution could not produce vital witnesses to prove the charges. Moreover, the notice was not duly served. So, the accused was acquitted, the judge concluded.
Earlier, the prosecution and the defence completed their arguments and the court recorded statements of six prosecution witnesses, including the complainant of the case.
The court on January 15 of the present year framed charges against the BNP leader in the case filed by the ACC with Ramna Model Police Station.
On December 6, 2018, ACC Deputy Director Jahangir Hossain pressed charges against Ishraque Hossain in the case.
