UNB, Jhalakati :
Jatiya Party (JaPa) chairman HM Ershad on Monday came down hard on BNP leaders, including its chairperson Khaleda Zia, for what he said their inaction in the field of politics.
“Khaleda Zia doesn’t get out of her house (for political purposes). They (BNP leaders) are neither active in houses nor on the streets. On top of it, there’s no young leadership in the party,” he said.
The former military ruler was addressing the biennial conference of the district unit of JP at the local Shilpakala Academy auditorium.
Observing that the country’s people have got fed up with the successive misrules of Awami League and BNP, Ershad said, “They (people) have got nothing except (enforced) disappearances, killings and torture since I have quit power.” If JaPa returns to power, he promised, they would carry out massive development programmes across the country and ensure the safety and security of people of all classes.
JaPa secretary general Ziauddin Ahmed Bablu, central leaders Barrister Anisul Islam Mahmud, Rezaul Islam Bhuiyan and Abul Hossain Babla, among others, spoke at the conference held with district JaPa outgoing president Advocate Yusuf Ali Mollah in the chair.
The conference elected Bazlur Rahman and Mahbubur Rahman as the president and general secretary of the party’s district unit respectively.
