BNP’s demo tomorrow, mass hunger strike May 4

The BNP will stage demonstrations across the country tomorrow (Monday) and will observe a countrywide mass hunger strike on May 4, protesting arrest, torture and extra-judicial killings of the leaders and the activists.
The party Acting Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir told the journalists at the party’s Nayapaltan office in the city on Saturday noon.
Accordingly, the party will stage the countywide demonstrations in cities, district and upazila headquarters and will observe May 4 mass hunger strike from 9:00 AM to 6:00 PM also in the cities, district and the upazila headquarters.
Mirza Fakhrul said that they would also hold the programme in protest of filing cases against the party Chairperson Begum Kahleda Zia and senior Vice-Chairman Tarique Rahman. “The government is harassing opposition (leaders and workers) to fulfil its conspiracy against the country and people,” he claimed.
He alleged that the government is implementing its design by implicating them leaders workers in ‘false’ cases. He also alleged that the government and the Awami Leauge men are torturing people, which has surpassed British imperialists’ record in the sub-continent.
The BNP leader urged all to join BNP launched movement for restoring voting rights and ensuring security of people. “People must join this movement and oust this illegal government in order to restore the normal living condition,” he said.
Meanwhile, the Dhaka city unit of the BNP is planning to hold tomorrow’s demonstration rally either in front of the party’s Nayapaltan central office, or in front of the National Press Club or at Suhrawardy Udyan. The city unit will submit a letter to the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) in this regard, said Abdus Salam, Member-Secretary of the city unit.
