Staff Report :
The BNP will celebrate its 40th founding anniversary across the country today (Saturday).
On September 1 in 1978, late President Ziaur Rahman had founded the party with a 19-point programme aimed at building a self-reliant Bangladesh.
The BNP and its associate bodies have taken up different programmes in the city, including colourful rally, discussion, public meeting, hoisting of the party flag at party offices and placing wreaths at the grave of the party founder.
Besides, similar programmes have also been chalked out in all districts of the country in observance of the anniversary.
The party will hold a public rally in front of its Naya Paltan central office in the capital at 2:00pm on the day.
The party leaders hope that a huge gathering of the party men and activists will be seen in the rally.
Earlier, the party leaders and activists will place wreaths and offer munajat at the grave of late President Ziaur Rahman at 10:00am.
The party flag will be hoisted atop BNP’s Naya Paltan central office and all other offices across the country at 6:00am on the day.
The party will also arrange a discussion at the Institution of Engineers, Bangladesh on Sunday.
BNP men will celebrate the programme this year without party Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia as she has been in jail in a graft case.
Since 1978, BNP had been in power four times and in the opposition bench twice. But following the January 5 in 2014 election boycott, the party remains out of parliament.
