Opposition BNP on Wednesday chalked out a three-day programme to celebrate the party’s 36th founding anniversary.
The programmes include holding discussion, hoisting party flag, placing wreaths at the grave of party founder and taking out a colourful procession.
BNP joint secretary general Ruhul Kabir Rizvi announced the programmes at a press briefing at the party’s Nayapaltan central office after a joint meeting of the party and its associate bodies. The meeting, held with BNP acting secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, finalised the programmes.
As part of the programmes, Rizvi said the party will arrange a discussion on August 31. A documentary on the party’s activities and achievements will also be displayed on the day. The venue will be notified later, he said.
Besides, party and national flags will be hoisted atop all the offices of BNP across the country, including the Nayapaltan central office, on May 1. Later, BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia along with the party leaders and activists will place wreaths and offer fateha at the mazar of its founder ex-president Ziaur Rahman at 10am on the day.
The party will also take out a colourful procession from in front of BNP’s Nayapaltan central office on May 2, marking the party’s anniversary. Besides, the party’s associate bodies all units across the country will mark the day with various programmes, including hoisting party flag, discussion meetings and rallies.
On September 1, 1978, late President Ziaur Rahman, a Liberation War hero, formed the BNP in 1978 with a 19-point programme to build a self-reliant Bangladesh.
BNP ruled Bangladesh for several terms. Party chairperson Khaleda Zia became the country’s first female Prime Minister (PM) after winning the 1991 general election.
