The BNP and its alliance Jatiya Oikyafront will take to the street demanding re-election soon.
“We will take to the street soon for re-election. The wide spread irregularities, snatching voting rights, and post polls violence made people aggrieved. The people will meet the demand of an acceptable election through tough agitation,” BNP Standing Committee Member Dr. Khandaker Mosharraf Hossain told The New Nation Tuesday. He said, the people of Bangladesh do not accept an election of wide irregularities and snatching of voting rights as witnessed on December 30 in an independent country.
Dr. Mosharraf said the ruling party men are now attacking, setting fire, vandalizing, and looting BNP supporters’ house in every area including Daudkandi, Cumilla.
BNP Standing Committee Member Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury said, “People of our country reject the so-called election conducted by Awami League and their subservient Election Commission. We will take to street soon demanding fresh polls.”
He said that his party’s elected MP’s will not take oath. It is a clear signal that we strongly protest such unacceptable election.
“We will compel the government to announce new election soon,” he said.
The party sources said, the BNP had started an effort to collect all documents of election irregularities and post polls violence across the country.
BNP candidates of all constituencies have been summoned over phone to its Chairperson’s Gulshan office on Thursday morning with their documents of voting day’s irregularities and post polls violence.
One of the leaders of the party said, the party will compile irregularities and vote rigging documents after collecting from every candidate.
“Everyone of the country knows how did the AL abuse the people’s voting rights. They threatened the people who supported the BNP not to go to polling stations on election day,” said a BNP leader.
He said, the party high command is now working to collect all the facts from every constituency which would be submitted to the EC as well our foreign development partners.
The party will take legal actions against those irregularities after collecting and compiling all documents.
The senior leaders said police administrations had played an unwanted role during the election.
They had conducted massive searching drives in almost every house of our party leaders, activists’ even ordinary supporters in every locality.
The police arrested huge numbers of our party men from their homes and misbehaved with female members of those houses.
They had also threatened our party men to leave areas and not to go there until the election held.
“After all such measures, the AL men stuffed ballots in order to fill ballot boxes overnight under police shelter before the vote,” BNP Senior Joint-Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi said.
He said, not only that the police and the ruling party men drove out all polling agents from every constituency, they stuffed boxes without any obstructions.
BNP Joint-Secretary General Syed Moazzem Hossain Alal said, the people could not franchise their voting right on December 30 in the lopsided polls.
The countrymen could not accept such polls as they made the country’s future uncertain.
So, the people will forge a tough movement to realise their voting rights soon, Alal said.
The party leaders also said, they had asked the people to protest the post polls violence in every area.
