A senior party leader warned on Saturday that the consequences of the government’s move will not be ‘pleasant’.”The government will not be able to rule comfortably if they add to sufferings of the people by hiking gas price,” BNP Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi told a media briefing on Saturday.”If the price is increased this time, then household gas charge for a single burner stove will touch Tk 800 from the current Tk 400 and for double burners it will be Tk 1000 from the existing Tk 500,” he said.Petrobangla is slated to propose a massive hike in gas prices at all consumer levels.The proposal sent by the Ministry of Power, Energy and Mineral Resources recommends raising the prices by 5 percent to 122 percent.Bangladesh Energy Regulatory Commission (BERC) will hold a public hearing after Eid-ul-Azha and then come up with a final decision on the proposal, said Petrobangla Chairman Hossain Monusr had said on Wednesday.Last time gas prices were revised in August 2009 during the past Awami League government. All retail prices apart from brick kilns and CNG were raised.
